Tim joined Smartgroup in 2009. Prior to becoming Chief Executive Officer in February 2020, he was responsible for the finance, corporate development and investor relations functions.

Tim previously worked for Aristocrat Leisure Limited in various senior management roles and prior to that with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Sydney and London.

Tim holds a Bachelor of Economics from The University of Sydney and is a member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

Sarah Haas joined Smartgroup in 2017 as part of the senior management team of AccessPay (acquired May 2017). Sarah was appointed Chief Executive – PBI Salary Packaging in March 2018.

Sarah has held management roles at AccessPay since 2014, including Chief Commercial Officer, developing strong expertise working with public benevolent institutions and the unique salary packaging benefits that apply to this sector. Prior to AccessPay, Sarah worked in numerous management roles, including an extensive leadership career at Sensis (Yellow Pages).

Sophie joined Smartgroup in 2016 as Chief Legal Officer and Company Secretary.

Sophie is an experienced legal and governance professional with over 20 years experience working across top tier global law firms, Ashurst and DLA Piper, and global corporates, including Coca-Cola Amatil, Westfield Retail Trust and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Sophie holds a Masters in Law from the University of Sydney, and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Business (Finance) from The University of Technology, Sydney and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Bijal joined Smartgroup as Chief Risk Officer in June 2018 and manages the risk and internal audit functions. He is responsible for defining and delivering a risk management framework, which supports business growth opportunities.

Bijal is a senior executive with over 25 years financial services, risk management and internal audit experience with global companies such as VocaLink, Macquarie Bank, Babcock & Brown, JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank and KPMG. Prior to joining Smartgroup, he was the Head of Group Risk at Woolworths Group.

Bijal is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Money, Banking and Finance from The University of Birmingham

Justine joined Smartgroup as Chief Human Resources Officer in August 2018.

Prior to joining Smartgroup, Justine was General Manager of People and Culture at equigroup for 6 years and was the functional leader of the company’s European expansion and joint venture establishment across multiple geographies. Justine began her career as an Industrial Relations graduate at BHP Steel, progressing to more senior Human Resources roles within BHP before becoming National Human Resources Manager at United Airlines.

Justine has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Queensland, a Graduate Diploma of Industrial Relations, and a Master of Commerce (Hons).

Tony joined Smartgroup in 2019 as Chief Technology Officer. Previously, Tony has held leadership roles across wealth management, general and life insurance, retail and investment banking and in oil and gas.

He has held Chief Information Officer positions for nearly 20 years: at the Westpac wealth division (BT Financial Group) and at QBE Insurance Australia and New Zealand. In the Westpac/St George bank merger program, he held the role of Director of Transformation for the wealth division.

Tony was a sponsor for major product and systems innovations such as the BT Super for Life project – which was the forerunner and model for the Australian Government’s MySuper initiative. He lead the strategy and implementation of major contemporary digital underwriting, pricing and claims systems at QBE.
